Help
Everything you need to rehearse with Linester. Can't find your answer? Email support@linester.app.
Getting started
- Tap Upload a script (PDF) and choose your script from Files, iCloud Drive, or wherever you keep it. A typed PDF takes seconds; a scanned one takes a few minutes, because every page is read like a photograph.
- Choose your character from the list (the biggest parts come first) and tap Start rehearsing.
- Tap Start listening, then tap the line you want to start from. Linester reads its cue, and you're off.
The first time, Linester asks to use the microphone and speech recognition. Both run on your device. It may also download Apple's English speech model, once.
While you rehearse
- The word you just said is in bold, so you can always see where you are.
- Words you drop or change are marked in red, with a soft sound (you can turn the sound off with the Mistakes switch). Starting a line again clears its marks.
- When you finish a line, Linester reads the next cue by itself. Pause to think whenever you like: it waits.
- Change how fast cues are read with the Cues setting.
Voice commands
Say these out loud while you rehearse. Any of them can start with “Maestro,” your prompter's name, which you only need if the words also appear in your own lines.
| Say | What happens |
|---|---|
| “Line!” | One more word of your line. Say it again for more. |
| “Give me the whole line” | The whole line from the start. |
| “Give me the rest” | The line from where you stopped. |
| “Give me the sentence” | The sentence you're in, without moving on. |
| “Give me the next sentence” / “…previous sentence” | The sentence after or before. |
| “Next line” / “Previous line” | Move to the next or previous line of yours. |
| “Cue line” | Hear the cue again. Also “next cue line” and “previous cue line”. |
| “Go two cue lines back” | Or forward, any number up to 99. |
| “Go to the top of act two” | Also “…of scene three”, “go to act four”, or “go to the top” of the act or scene you're in. |
| “Stop!” | Stops Maestro mid-sentence. |
Fixing lines, cues and names
- Edit a line or cue: press and hold the line, then choose Edit line or Edit cue. You can always go back to the original.
- A word that keeps getting marked though you said it (often a name): tap the red word and choose Teach Maestro how I say it. Say the words shown when asked, three times (each time from a different line with that word), and Linester recognizes it from then on. Or choose Stop marking it.
- Words you've taught, and words you've chosen not to mark, are listed at the bottom of the rehearsal screen. Tap one to undo it.
Moving scripts to your other iPhone or iPad
- On the home screen, tap Export under a script, or Export all.
- Send the file to your other device: AirDrop, Messages, Mail or Files.
- On the other device, open the file (AirDrop puts it in Files → Downloads), tap Share → Linester, then Import it.
Everything comes along: your edits, mistake marks, taught words and settings. If the same script is already on that device, it's replaced; other scripts are left alone.
When a script doesn't come out right
Scripts come in many layouts, and Linester is still learning some. If your character is missing, or lines look wrong, tap Get help under the script. Describe the problem, and choose whether to include the script. We'll teach Linester your script's layout and send you back a file that fixes it, usually with the improvement going to everyone in the next update.
